This Christmas isn’t about celebration for eighteen-year-old Kyndra, it’s about survival. Grieving the loss of her grandmother and struggling with the indifference of her family, Kyndra now splits her time between her dead-end mall job, her junkie ex-boyfriend’s bed, and the streets. Longing to be close to her grandmother one more time, she wanders into Christmas Eve mass and prays she’ll find the place she belongs. Home.

Aidan isn’t ready to let go of the past either, even though he’s had nearly three hundred years to do it. He chronicles the search for the reincarnation of his beloved wife as the vampire romance author Allison Duprois. Aidan knows the wife he mourns is out there, but fears writing their story is as close as he will get to her.

At Christmas Eve mass, he finally finds her. Alone, with no place to go.

Aidan brings Kyndra into his home, and gives her the safety, comfort and love she longs for. Though he gives her second chances she never thought she’d have, Kyndra still can’t get over Aidan’s mysterious past. Not to mention that he claims that he’s a vampire. Life alone on the streets is dangerous enough without handing her trust and love to the wrong person. Can Aidan break through the walls around Kyndra’s hardened heart to convince her that she belongs with him, forever?

*This is a companion novel to the Night Moves Series.

“What girl deep down inside doesn’t fall for a good love story?”

Kyndra hasn’t had the best of luck lately, since her grandmother passed away one year ago; she has been kicked out of their old place. She now spends her night between living on the streets, staying at her drug- dealer boyfriend’s house and her best friend from high school’s house. On Christmas Eve she wonders into a mass after having nowhere to go, at least here she might feel a bit closer to her grandmother. While watching all the families passing by a man named Aidan approaches her claiming he knows her. After the mass Aidan brings her to his house for the night, here she finds comfort and safety, but is Aidan really telling her about his true self?

Aidan is an author of novels, but goes under the pen name Alison Duprois, these novels are a memoirs of his life. By documenting his search for the reincarnation of his love for the past three hundred years, he has become a best-selling author. Kyndra has always enjoyed reading Alison Duprois’ novels; she just didn’t know she would end up living one of them.

I feel like if it wasn’t for bad luck, Kyndra would have luck at all. Once Kyndra has a place to stay and decides to get her CNA to get her life in order, she gets fired from her current job. Once Kyndra received a job in a hospital after completing her CNA course she stumbles upon her mom, who has never been part of her life. She is completely torn on how she feels about the situation as well. Also, being in the relationship she is in with Aidan she ends up losing many people she once cared about. Although it may be for the best, it still took a toll on her.

I enjoyed the fact that although this was in the POV of Kyndra we were able to see some thoughts through Aidan’s eyes while Kyndra was reading his novels. I was able to truly get a sense of how he felt and how strong his attraction to her truly was.

I have to admit that do not read many vampire books, this is only my third one and I have yet to fall in love with a vampire character until now! He seemed so very different from all the others that I have read.

Also, I have not read any other novels in the Night Song Collection, but did not interfere with me enjoying this novel. I also hope Kristen Strassel will maybe write from Aidan’s point of view, I know I would really enjoy it!

Synopsis:

It’s been four years since twenty-year-old Jessica Hayes has been home, but when she discovers her father is dying, she must return to her hometown in South Carolina and face her past. Jessica thought patching up her relationship with her father would be her biggest challenge, but when she runs into Ryan Dawson—the catalyst of all her problems—she wonders if coming home was a mistake.

He may have turned his life around, but he can’t undo the damage. So, he does what he should have done all those years ago. He stays away from Jessica, and all the other personal demons that still haunt him.

Jessica thought she wanted nothing to with Ryan, but something is different about him and she needs to know why. When she discovers the truth behind his change, she puts her troubles aside and tries to help him. But is putting her heart back in the line of fire worth disrupting her stable life back in Ohio, or will the past repeat itself, leaving her brokenhearted once again?

Excerpt:

Ryan

As Luke and Jason chatted about the next race, I leaned against the rail, looking at the stars. After that night under the stars with Jessica, the night she told me I could be anything I wanted to be, I never looked at the night sky the same way. It was like the stars and I shared a secret, as if the night sky knew something about me that no one else did.

Jason leaned on the rail beside me. “What’s up?”

“Nothing.” I glanced over my shoulder. “Where’s Luke?”

“He went to the car to grab a bottle of whiskey.”

“Oh.” Maybe it was time for me to leave. Seeing the guys drinking whiskey while I had to hold back was probably a bad idea.

I looked around, trying to remember where I had parked my car.

“She didn’t come,” Jason said. He must have misinterpreted me and thought I was looking for his sister. “Rachel and Sophie stopped by the house and tried to convince her to come, but since you told her about your past, she’s been quiet. Well, quieter.”

I frowned. “Why?” He shrugged. “I didn’t tell her so she would feel bad about it. I told her because I realized she would find out one way or other. Better if it came from me.”

Jason nodded. “I know.” He tilted his head at me. “Are you okay?”

I chuckled—a sarcastic sound. “Never been better.”

With a hint of pity in his eyes, he placed a hand on my shoulder and squeezed. “You know I’m here for you, man. Whatever the problem is.”

“I know, J-man.” I sighed. However, there was nothing to be done. My problem was with the past, and unfortunately, I couldn’t change it. Neither could I let it go.

Luke showed up with the whiskey bottle. “Dude, it took me a few minutes to find it. I thought I had forgotten it.”

I glanced at the bottle, then at Jason. Comprehension spread across his face.

“Luke, maybe we shouldn’t drink that tonight,” Jason said.

Luke’s face fell, but a second later, he nodded. “Right. Of course.”

“Nah, it’s okay.” I pushed against the rail. “I have to wake up early tomorrow, so I’m gonna go. But you guys should drink that whiskey and have a good time.”

“Ryan, you don’t need to go,” Jason started.

I shook my head. “No, I do.” I wasn’t kidding about waking up early. After all, I had to be at the Habitat for Humanity site at eight sharp. As much as I wanted to stay and drink—Coke—with them, I knew my mood wasn’t great for company. “See you guys soon.”

Jason and Luke smacked my shoulder as I walked past them. The party went on as I walked by. I smiled, but inwardly, I envied them. I still had a wild night here and there, but if I could help it, they happened rarely. Meanwhile, these people could drink and stay out all night long. They could have fun; they could enjoy themselves, guiltlessly.

With a long exhale, I slipped into my Mustang and pulled away before I gave in to temptation and joined them.

For best friends, Candy and Libby, money is tight with hardly enough to cover their living expenses. When they are desperate for grocery money, the girls bet on their pool playing skills to add to their income.

A simple wager on a quiet winter evening has devastating results, with a stalker determined to kill them both. With Libby in the hospital after a vicious attack, and Candy being pursued by the same stalker, she vows to find Libby’s attacker.

What she finds is Dave, an old friend with a secret past filled with misfortune. Will Dave’s past provide the answer to all of Candy’s problems or will it become Candy’s worst nightmare realized?

My review:

Lately each time I read a book, I think I won’t find another one that will keep me engaged. Well, His Frozen Heart proved me wrong. This story was full of twists and turns, I never knew what was going to happen next.

Candy and her best friend Libby are living on their own after Graduation, but they didn’t know that it would be as hard as it is. Candy works three jobs and Libby works as well and at times they still do not have money to eat. When they become desperate Libby goes and pool sharks at a local bar. One night the girls were in need for food and decided to go to the local bar where they end up winning four hundred dollars from two guys names Teddy and Tony. Tony was not happy to lose since he was sharking as well. Little did Candy and Libby know the consequences for winning that night may lead to so much danger. While investigating the events that have unfolded for Candy, she runs into an old friend, could be the same person she knew all those years ago or is he hiding something?

There was so many times where I felt emotion during this book, I usually do not cry while reading, but there were many scenes that got to me. The love that Candy had for her friends and family was amazing and she would stop at nothing to keep them safe. As a character Candy grew from being a girl who got all she wanted to come that would do anything for the people around even if that means risking her life. Dave, Candy’s friend from the past, went from being a very closed up person to opening up to Candy and telling her more about himself and his family.

If all of Nancy’s books are like this, I will be looking out for more of her books!

Review: Definitely, Maybe in Love by Ophelia London

unnamed

Title- Definitely, Maybe in Love

Author- Ophelia London

Oh Knightly you are just as hot and cold as Mr. Darcy!!! I absoluly LOVE Pride and Prejudice and was very excited to read a story that was a modem take on the classic story. I was a little nervous because sometimes re-telling are not written very well, but I LOVED this story!!

Spring Honeycutt is a junior in college and studying Environmental Science and working on a thesis. When Spring’s professor tells her that he feels that she would be able to get published once her thesis was done, she was beyond excited. There was one catch, she needed to add the opposition within her paper. The only person around to help her understand the other side of her topic is Henry Knightley, her rich, arrogant neighbor.

Ophelia London was able to take all the situations which happened in Pride and Prejudice and place a modern take on it to make each situation more believable.

I’m that teenaged girl who has MS. You haven’t met me, but you’ve seen me around. You probably know my sister. We’re twins, and she’s the pretty one. Maybe you’ve heard about my reputation, how much I like to hook up at parties—how easy it is to get me in bed, get what you want, and forget about me after.

Forget what you think you know. I’m leaving that girl behind.

College is all about new beginnings. So from now on—I’m just Cass. And the rest…it isn’t written yet. And no one else gets to write my story for me.

——–

“Tyson Preeter doesn’t do can’t.”

That’s exactly what I want people to think when they see me. I am strong, invincible, confident, intelligent—arrogant. I’m the man who always finds a way around, over and through—until there’s nothing left. Since losing my ability to walk six years ago, I’ve relearned life. I don’t need sympathy. I don’t want charity. And I don’t do love.

It’s better this way, saves my disappointments for me, and me alone, and it saves my strength for everything I want.

But Cass Owens is about to wreck everything. She’s about to steal all of my strength away from me, because she needs it more. She’s about to break all of my rules, and break down all of my walls. She’s about to own me…completely.

And I’m about to let her.

Excerpt:

“So honestly, when do I get to kiss you again?” She laughs at my harsh left turn in our conversation. I love the way she laughs. There’s this rasping sound that comes from deep inside her that shows it’s genuine, and her smile creases deep into her cheeks.

She flops to her back, and I instantly kick myself for causing her to move away. “You’re really trying to wear me down, aren’t you?” she says, her hand running along the side of her face until she covers her eyes, peering at me through her barely spread fingers.

“Wow, well…I’ve never really had to wear anyone down before…” I say, shielding my slightly dented ego.

“And that’s precisely why we need to be friends, and why I can’t kiss you…” she starts, and I interrupt.

“Again,” I say.

“Right, again,” she whispers and moves her hand back to cover her eyes. I take this opportunity to roll onto my side and really look at her, the way her lips barely part when she breathes, the small twitches they make when she fights against her body’s urge to smile, the tiny movement of her tongue as it wets her lips. I have to kiss her again.

“But…and hear me out,” I say, startling her with how close I am. She uncovers her eyes and turns to face me, scooting back a few more inches just to maintain this new self-imposed “safety”distance.  “Maybe the fact that I am willing to work so hard just to get you to say yes makes you different.”

She stares into my eyes for several long seconds, her lips slightly parted as she considers this. “Am I? Different?” she asks.

“Now see, there’s the catch,” I say, running my thumb softly over the wrinkles in the sheet between us. “I can’t know for certain unless I kiss you again.”

“Oh really,” she says, smirking.

“Cross my heart,” I say, motioning my hand across my chest. “It’s in the handbook.”

“There’s a handbook,” she says.

“Uh, duh. There’s always a handbook,” I challenge back.

“And your handbook says you can’t tell if I’m worth your time without jamming your tongue down my throat?” she fires back.

“Wow. Again with the word slap,” I say, secretly loving this back-and-forth we’ve got going now.

“Word slap?” she questions.

“Yeah, like, you just bitch-slapped me in the face with your words. Word slap,” I say with a shrug. She holds my gaze after this and bites at the corner of her lip, her eyes squinting as she decides her next move.

“Okay, how’s this,” she says, leaning in a little closer, closing the gap in the invisible barrier she seems to have instituted when I started talking about kissing. “You can kiss me again…” I move toward her on instinct, but she’s quick to put her hand against my chest to stop me. I grip it, tight, and meet the dare in her eyes. “But not until you mean it.”

There’s a fire in her eyes when she says this, one that I don’t disrespect, and don’t dare cross. It’s not threatening, but it’s serious, and I have this feeling churning in my stomach that Cass Owens is what Nate and I like to call a game changer. Her words have my heart racing, my mind worried that I can’t mean it enough, at least not yet. All of our playfulness from seconds before has ceased with this line she’s drawn, and I will obey it.

Holding her gaze, I lift the hand I’ve trapped against my body to my mouth and press my lips to her open palm. I don’t speak, and I don’t break our line of sight. But I don’t kiss her, either.

Blog Tour, Review and Giveaway: Rose of Thorne by Mia Michelle

Rose of Thorne Cover

Book: Rose of Thorne

Author: Mia Michelle

Genre: Contemporary Romance

GOODREADS

Synopsis:

When a drunk driver tragically orphans Skylar Rose at the age of sixteen, she leaves her dreams behind and takes on the daunting task of helping her elderly grandmother raise her young sister. While other girls her age were living a typical carefree life, she was picking up double shifts at a local café and struggling to pay the bills.

Always putting her sister’s needs and school first, Skylar has never had time to date or develop relationships. Now a senior in college, she has her sights set on an amazing internship opportunity. The last thing she needed was for a sexy distraction like Sebastian Thorne to walk into her life.

Sebastian Thorne had been an entitled and reckless nineteen year old when he got behind the wheel of his new sports car that night. When his night of indulgence goes tragically wrong, Sebastian hesitantly turns to the one person, he knows can make everything go away…the one person he hates ..his father.

Now twenty-six, Sebastian is the young enigmatic and powerful CEO of his late father’s design company, Thorne Enterprises. With both millions in the bank and a new woman on his arm almost every night, the world never knew the dark secret he carried inside. Still plagued with nightmares from the night of that horrific accident and having to leave the beautiful girl behind, Sebastian vows to find the one that haunts his dreams. Sometimes the choice of revisiting our past opens the door to a future that we never thought possible.

Haunted by their past, these two want nothing more than to have their life given back to them. But what do you do when the person who gave you back your life, was the very one that took it from you in the first place?

My Review:

Wow is all I can say about this book, Mia Michele really has me stumped. I have no idea what I want to happen in the series after this novel.

Sebastian Throne first meets Skylar Rose when we crashes into her and her family while intoxicated, killing both Skylar’s mother and father. When Sebastian went to check on the passengers, he laid his eyes on the most beautiful girl. Instead of doing the right thing, Sebastian fleas the scene and turns to his father to help clean everything up, by doing this he makes a deal with the devil.

Seven years later Sebastian sees Skyler at her parent’s grave site, and now is consumed with knowing everything about her. Little did he know he would fall for her even more after getting know her.

While reading Sebastian was a real jerk to Skylar whenever he pushed her away and all she wanted to do was be with the man she loved. Sebastian finally allowed her to love him and to love her, but will not tell her the truth of what happened that night 7 years ago, knowing that she would not stay with him. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t root for their relationship, instead I rooted for Lucas and was heartbroken when he stooped appearing in the book, he gave up on Skylar and the way he felt.

I cannot wait to read Book Two and I hope to hear about Lucas and hear why he gave up the way he did.
