Review: Nothing but Trouble by J. L Hammer

Title- Nothing but Trouble

Author- J. L Hammer

Publisher- Entangled Publishing

Nothing but Trouble kept me on the edge of my seat!

Frankie works at a gentlemens club, Glitz, as a server who made a deal with the wrong person, a loan shark, Domino. When Domino approaches Frankie to star in porn in order to settle her debts, Frankie gets nervous and flees. She decides to go to her Uncle’s, but on the way she crashes her precious Mustang. Frankie then tries someone to help her and she finds a cabin, where she literally falls into Wes’ cabin. The first meeting between Frankie and Wes was too funny, him in the bath tub, while she is hanging from the ceiling that she just crashed through. Wes is a cop who thinks Frankie is up to something, but then again Wes has trouble trusting women after his ex cheated on him. It seems the more Frankie stays with him the more trouble finds her, and every time you think Frankie and Wes are in the clear something always seems to follow.

There was a very interesting cast of characters all of them unique in their own way; Lily is Frankie’s next door neighbor who can stand her own, Ginger whose son has leukemia and will do anything to help him, Jim and Wayne who are Wes’ next door neighbors, both interesting in their own way and so many more!!

This story combined suspense, romance and humor and I loved all three together!!!

~~My Review~~

Wow! Black Rose, was a gripping and suspenseful novel that takes readers into an adventure           with Lillian Locke, who has been kidnapped, and Richard Haines, who is trying to find her.

This debut novel from Kris Thompson, was able to keep me in suspense the whole time reading!!

Lillian Locke thought she had the perfect life; she was in college, her best friend was sharing an apartment with her and she had the perfect boyfriend. The only thing was girls were going missing from campus, even though this was happening Lillian never thought this would happen to her, that’s when he got her! She doesn’t remember how she got abducted all she know is when she woke up, it was dark, smelled and she was chained to the wall by her ankle. Then there’s Richard who did everything in his power to find his girlfriend Lillian after she was kidnapped.

I enjoyed the back and forth POV between Richard and Lillian, it was very interesting to see what they were both doing on the same day. I also like how each time the narration changed the day in which they were on, which it was day counting on how long Lillian held captive vs how many days she had been missing from Richard, was labeled.

It was also interesting to see how all the characters coped with thing differently. The girls that were held captive coped differently after they were raped or beaten, some talked, some stayed quiet and some became physical, showing not all people cope with trauma in the same way. They all bonded as sisters together and did this by talking about their lived and people they loved. Richard, his family and Lillian’s family also coped with losing Lillian in different ways. It showed how not all people cope with loss the same way, the only thing they had in common was that they all loved Lillian and all wanted to find her!

~~Praise for Black Rose~~
“There are just not enough words to describe how great I thought this book was! I completed it in one sitting, refused sleep till I was finished.

A psychotic killer is abducting women, holding them hostage for days and days while raping and torturing and killing in a most horrendous way. Except you know this by reading the back of the book. What you dont know is the story inside…there is so much more.”

My review:

Lately each time I read a book, I think I won’t find another one that will keep me engaged. Well, His Frozen Heart proved me wrong. This story was full of twists and turns, I never knew what was going to happen next.

Candy and her best friend Libby are living on their own after Graduation, but they didn’t know that it would be as hard as it is. Candy works three jobs and Libby works as well and at times they still do not have money to eat. When they become desperate Libby goes and pool sharks at a local bar. One night the girls were in need for food and decided to go to the local bar where they end up winning four hundred dollars from two guys names Teddy and Tony. Tony was not happy to lose since he was sharking as well. Little did Candy and Libby know the consequences for winning that night may lead to so much danger. While investigating the events that have unfolded for Candy, she runs into an old friend, could be the same person she knew all those years ago or is he hiding something?

There was so many times where I felt emotion during this book, I usually do not cry while reading, but there were many scenes that got to me. The love that Candy had for her friends and family was amazing and she would stop at nothing to keep them safe. As a character Candy grew from being a girl who got all she wanted to come that would do anything for the people around even if that means risking her life. Dave, Candy’s friend from the past, went from being a very closed up person to opening up to Candy and telling her more about himself and his family.

If all of Nancy’s books are like this, I will be looking out for more of her books!

About the author:

I LOVE Starbucks’ White Mocha Latte and Mountain Dew, (but not together). I have a lead foot so I set cruise control when I drive, even in 25 MPH zones. I almost never win when I play Angry Birds, but have my 9 year old close, so he can clear the hard levels for me. I grew up on a farm and am opposed to eating fresh chicken (not opposed to meat – just opposed to any meat that was alive a few hours before lunch). I am a huge fan of the show, Big Bang Theory, on CBS. I share my life with two fantastic sons, three rotten dogs and a husband that I adore.

Blog Tour and Review- The Unraveling of Raven by Theresa Sederholt

Book: The Unraveling of Raven

Author: Theresa Sederholt

Genre: Contemporary Romance

At twenty-seven, Raven Anderson experienced more heartache then anyone would in their lifetime. Finally, her life seems on track when she starts doing what she loves the most; teaching second grade.

However, the best-laid plans are not always the right path as Raven learns when fate puts her in the direct path of mega billionaire, Jaxson James Phillips, owner of Raiders, Inc., a corporate raiding company. With the spotlight now focused on Raven, her past is threatening her future. So, she does what she does best—run!

This beautiful girl, with the violet eyes, has left Jax, who never gets rattled, totally speechless. Used to getting what he wants, he can’t understand why she’s running from him. As time goes on, he slowly unravels the many layers of Raven. What he finds . . . puts everyone around them in danger.

Can anyone survive?

Theresa Sederholt debuts into the world with her first novel The Unraveling of Raven and it’s a great one! This is book one in a three book series and I must say if this was just book one, I cannot wait for the next two!!!

Raven Anderson is a second grade teacher at a private school in Manhattan and lives with her best friend Marco. Raven is also lucky enough to work alongside with her best friend, Jackie, who she met in college. Each morning before school, Raven goes to Starbucks, but one particular morning Raven runs into Jax Phillips and spills coffee all over him. Instantly they are both attracted to each other, Jax wants to know her more but Raven keeps running from him! Finally, Raven stops running, just in time for Jax to start receiving threats on everyone Jax loves.

From reading the synopsis of the book, I was not expecting all the suspense and mystery that went along with the story. Raven never allows people to get close to her, her past was not the best and she gained a lot of trust issues. This means the people she surrounds herself with, she cares deeply for. When some that are close to her, betray her, Raven is lost and doesn’t know what to do so she runs.

I loved that there was more than just Raven and Jax narrating, Max, Jax’s bodyguard and Best friend, has his own story involving Jack, Raven’s best friend. We only catch a glimpse into their relationship and I am hoping we learn more about them in the second book!!!

As a warning this book ends with a big cliffhanger and I cannot wait know what is going to happen next!!

I hang up and head into the shower. My girl is so beautiful. She renders me speechless. I realize, yeah, she is my girl and there is no going back—ever! I just need to convince her of this. I stand in the doorway, watching her. She has her back to the door, her head tilted back, and water cascading everywhere. Fuck it, I’m hard again! Stepping into the shower, I trail kisses down her back, slowly turning her, dipping my fingers in and out, nibbling, and licking. She starts to quiver. She yells my name; a benediction from her beautiful mouth. I work my way up her gorgeous body, worshiping every inch of her and lift her up. “Wrap your legs around my waist.” My beautiful girl doesn’t hesitate as I lower her slowly onto my cock.

She throws her head back. “Ohhhhhhh.”

I sigh, “Yeah, baby, ohhhhhh.”

She knows I need this slow right now, and she lets me. Up and down then, a swivel of the hips. First to the right and then to the left. She leans in and nibbles on my lower lip. “Jax, I can’t hold it much longer.”

I pull her in tighter. “Show me your soul, baby.”

Her violets lock onto my blues and we’re gone. I slide down the shower wall and just sit with my girl in my lap, my cock throbbing in cock heaven. “Jax, we need to get going.”

“Is that all you’re going to say? Hmm…?”

I can’t even open my eyes, let alone move. “Sweetheart, my cock is enjoying being in cock heaven. I can’t deny him this pleasure, don’t you agree?”

She laughs at me. “I can’t believe you call your cock him, and what the hell is cock heaven?”

All I can do is smile. “It’s the happy place. Not everyone finds it—it’s reserved for the special ones, a soul mate.”

She gets up and offers me a hand. “Jax, once again you have rendered me speechless.”
